The hated in America, all with public approval

It occurred to me after reading this article about Elizabeth Dole's unbelievably offensive attacks against her competitor for a senate seat in North Carolina that prejudice is alive and well and still a-ok in the US. Of course, it is no longer socially acceptable to attack people for their gender or the color of their skin (at least not openly), but there is certainly lots of wiggle room for those who thrive on putting other people down to jack themselves up.

Who is it okay to revile?

Atheists
Muslims
Iranians
Iraqis
Palestinians
The French
Fat People
Gays/Lesbians
Communists
Socialists
Mexican immigrants (legal or otherwise)
Smart people
Unmarried black parents
Southerners and others who are unfortunately accented
Politicians
Lawyers
